A month full of bad surprises, but I hope we can see this past weekend as having turned the page… In the grand scheme of things I know that we have been spared in so many ways, but when dealing with our little hardships of everyday life, it can still be tough to cope with. Well, I will give you a few examples to let you decide yourselves… In any case it is somewhat of a relief that this month is finally coming to an end!

4½ weeks ago Salmiak, our 4-year-old labrador, was bitten viciously by another dog when walked by our 12-year-old. The dog-owner was totally out of line, extremely aggressive towards both our son and our dog. Luckily the mother of one of the boys’ friends came to their help. I had to rush Salmiak to the vet as he needed surgery due to the TERRIBLE wounds. Last week we finally could stop medicating him as the wound was finally closed. Salmiak is the sweetest dog, so the every day cleaning of the wound and administering both the oral and local antibiotics have gone very smoothly as Salmiak has been lying still on the floor letting us tend to his wound…

We tried going after the dog-owner but found that there was no means of doing so – mostly because we did not have his contact-details, not even his name as he just took off screaming and yelling trying to intimidate our son. We were not even allowed to file a complaint with the police… Big disapppointment. Thus that horrid dog is still out there, and it has left our oldest reluctant to go on walks with Salmiak; he still does but turns around and comes back to the house as soon as he sees somebody walking a dog…

Two weeks ago we were hit badly by the stomach flu; the first time the entire family were sick at the same time since we all had swine-flu in November 2009. Naturally it was not as bad as having the swine-flu, but this winter’s stomach flu was far from pleasant. One night 3/4 family-members spent together on our bathroom-floor… I spent a total of 48 h on that floor, feeling incredibly weak when I finally got out of there…

But like I mentioned before there is a lot of worse things people in our vicinity are going through. Not to mention all the atrocities around the world. And the crazy politics taking place in the US this year. And the bare fact that today it is 30 years ago that the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was shot and killed after coming out of a movie-theater downtown Stockholm…

I will leave you on a happier note; this is the year of many happy birthdays, as I have so many dear friends born in 1966. My party-animal of a friend dear Ch. started all this partying off by throwing the best of parties last night – and I danced like I had not in a very long time. Life IS good.

One of the boys’ third cousins, Dear David in Nashville, TN, is not exactly spoilt when it comes to birthdays, but tomorrow he will celebrate his 7th real one! Congratulations young man! 🙂
